Let It Go.....

A special cake for one of my oldest kiddo's favourite people!  :)   Happy Birthday Peyton!!!  This is both a cake and present.... Elsa is actually a Christmas tree decoration that she can hang on the tree afterwards.  I absolutely love this cake and want this exact one for my birthday next year!  Check out the snowflake snowflake under Elsa's foot!  The blue's are so pretty and the touches of 'snow' everywhere make me want to go outside and play.  Especially if Christoph and Sven are out there with me!!!

Oh Christmas Tree....

Ok, so retail therapy is kinda my thing.  And when you combine that with making cakes/tasty creations... I am absolutely hooked!  I found this on sale at my favourite cake store and knew I needed an occasion to make a couple.  So.... the kiddies got to take these cookie trees to their kindergarten classes for the last day of school before Christmas vacation!  Take that Griswald's!!!
Peanut/tree-nut free sugar cookies Christmas trees!

Woof! Woof! Woof!

Anyone that knows me knows that I am a dog person... most days I like dogs more than people!  They're cute, cuddley, are always happy to see you and don't care if you're still in yoga pants at lunchtime.  Or lets face reality... dinnertime.  :)

This particular dalmation-esque puppy dog is so cute you could just eat him up!  Oh wait... you actually can!  He's a purebred white velvet pup with vanilla buttercream.  All parts of the dog are cake... with exception of the ears and tail.

He is stylin' in hot pink - matching the uber-cool birthday decorations perfectly.  There were 2 columns of pink, white and black balloons in front of a hot pink backdrop.  It looked stunning!  What a lucky little birthday girl!

Seeing squares....

So I finally am getting comfortable with my superhero knowledge and all of a sudden... Batman is out and Creeper (?) is in!  Boo.  The Minecraft craze has been going on for a while now but we're just starting to get into it.  My only knowledge is that they do have cute character 'stuffies'!!!
This cake was for my youngest nephew... who I held when he was only a few weeks old and is now up to my elbows!!!  Where does the time go?  Happy 6th Birthday dude!

By the time I was done making this cake I was literally seeing squares... not stars!  It's a triple layer chocolate cake filled with the most delectable chocolate buttercream ever!  How many squares could you eat???

Lucky Little Cowboy :)

I first want to prefice this post with the fact that Grandma's are just plain awesome.  And this Grandma took her awesomeness to the next level by finding this 'Classy Cowboy' cake design for a special little guy turning 1... complete with Cowboy Cupcakes!  The cake is french vanilla with buttercream filling and the cupcakes chocolate.  Yee-haw little man... I hope you have a great 1st birthday!

Everything Sweet....

There is going to be a woodland themed party this weekend for a sweet little girl that promises to be an 'Owl lot of fun!!!  I was given a picture of the party plates and napkins for inspiration and this is what I came up with.  I call it... Design by Paper Plate!

While the raccoons are super cute, I forgot just how much I love owl's until I started making them!!! Is there anything more festive than an owl blowing a noisemaker to celebrate turning '2'!?!  :)

It's beginning to look a lot like....

Christmas Flowers!!!!

My mom always had poinsettia's around the house at Christmas time, so these bring back memories of family, friends and fireplaces...  Of shortbread cookies, sweet marie bars and lemon squares!!!

Since her birthday is at the beginning of December, I think I will make her a poinsettia cake this year!  I am thinking a white velvet cake with peppermint mocha buttercream.  :)

Happy Birthday to me!  Colour scheme courtesy of a couple of kindergarteners.  :)  The thought is there though!!!

This was a vanilla tiramisu cake covered with a chocolate ganache and filled with a Bailey's buttercream filling.  :)  Did I mention... happy birthday to me???  Lol.

Birds of a Feather

I found this cake design a little while ago and have been eagerly awaiting a time to make it.  I got the opportunity this week and am estatic!!!  I LOVE making flowers... the orchids were new to me but turned out oh soooo beautiful.

Between the contrasts of the colours and the flower details... this was a hit!  Complete with a red-wine chocolate top tier, a chocolate carrot cake bottom tier and chocolate cream cheese icing...  this cake pairs well with more wine!!!  All in all, the perfect 'girls weekend' cake.  :)

Winter Wonderland?!?

I just fell absolutely in love with these winter cakes... they inspire fresh air, snowflakes on your nose, mittens and hot cholocate (with our without the Bailey's)!!!  They would be perfect for any joyful celebration... especially a winter wedding!  Who agree's with me?!?  Any takers???

Oh, The Places You Will Go!

Preschool Graduation Day
Congrats to all of the Happy Hearts Preschool graduates going to big-kid school in 2 weeks!!!

"Oh, the places you will go!  Today is your day... You're off to great places, you're off and away!  Kids, you'll move mountains.  Today is your day!  Your mountains are waiting, so get on your way!"  - Dr. Seuss

Graduation at 4pm.  Cake afterwards... and it was all gobbled up in just a few minutes.  Soooo... who ate their dinner?!?  lol

Hakuna Ma'Vodka...

"It means no memories for the rest of your night!!!"

Ok, admit it.  You're singing by now!!!

This was a surprise cake done for a special lion-loving, 30-something niece!  Her aunt was excited about this surprise for a few weeks beforehand and put a lot of thought into the design decision.  :)

Flavours were french vanilla top layer (the smaller one!) and Guinness chocolate cake for the bottom layer.  One for the cake... one for me!

The 2 smaller, slug covered 'smash' cakes were for the birthday girls' 2 little boys.  I LOVED this idea... something special for everyone!  Don't worry... the smash cakes were vanilla.  No need to start the boys on Guinness too early!

Hakuna Ma'Vodka Birthday Cake!

See the giraffe!?!

It's a Gong Show....

In my day the term Gong Show was NOT a sporting term!  Well, not a physical activity minded one, anyways!!!  However, I now know that Gong Show is an elite-ish sports apparel line.  This emblem was made for a 16-year old's birthday cake!  I guess you do grow out of superhero's at some point.  :)

This is fondant based emblem to be used on the birthday cake!

Flash... and Friends!

And Rylan turned 4 in a Flash.... !

My little superhero was so excited to have his 1st 'friends' birthday party, and of course, superhero's were the theme!  Flash was his hero of choice for this birthday... but Superman, Iron Man and Captain America are still a close 2nd.

We made capes/masks for all of his 'super-friends' and turned the backyard into a 'Marvel'ous Superhero skills competition course.  Hulk Smash water bottles... Flash Dash, Superhero bean bag toss, Spiderman boxing, Batman breath bubbles, bad-guy bounce and Captain America ring toss!  Just because I am completely neurotic there were superhero-themed snacks too!

Happy Birthday Ry-Guy!!!

Capes....

So... here comes the "capes" part of Capes 'n Cakes!!!  My littlest little is turning 4!!!  He opted for a Flash/Avenger birthday party so of course, what is a superhero party without the capes!  This is obviously his... all ready for some birthday pictures tonight with Chickadee Click!  For the record... I don't like sewing so much.  Feel free to critique the DIY cake, just not the DIY capes!!!  :)

Super, superhero updates to come!  Awesome "Flash & Friends" cake coming this weekend!!!!
